3-PROCESS FUNDMENTAL AND Technique:
a) PRESEDIMENATION PROCESS.
Most of the suspended particles in raw water possess a speecific gravity more than that of the water.The particles which have a granular or discrete shape have a tendency to settle dowen when the turbulence in th running water is retarded during a :
- lammella type clarification technique.
IN unite compact the lamella type claarification technique is applied for reducing the setting tank volume .
this advantage is achieved by arranging the lamella plastic plates in an angles 55 degree ;stagging them in small distances;for which the effective surface per volume of presedimentation basin is incrreased up to ten times.
-presedimentation tevhnique.
when the raw water passes through the lamella plates its coarse impuurities and sand of discrete shapes will be separated by sedimentation on the plates surface which continuously slides dowen to the slude zone ;but the effluent is collected in well and pumped to the next process equipment.
b)SEDIMNTATION AIDED BY COAGGULATION (FLOCCULATION) PROCESSES.
The rest of suspended solides are the following types;
-The amorphous slow setting solides ;
they are fine and light particles whic in most cases change their identity (shapes;sizeand weights) and need a long detention time and slow setting speed during sedimentation process.
- Floccuulent materials &Dispered particles:
they are the very fine colloidal matters or / and the dispersed particles( whic contain electric charges and are cotiuously in motion ;Brownian motion;).
These parrticles offer difficulty in setting or not settle at all by gravity.
for all of these reasons coagulation is needed before sedimentation.
Accordingly the ;forced sedimentation; or ;sedimentation aided by coagulation; method is applied for setting such particles;
