Muhammad Naji's mural that was burned
Nagy’s speeches about placing his large mural (7 meters by 3 meters) in the office of the Alexandria Governorate after the 1952 revolution, as if he were a national leader: “Dear fellow citizens, on the occasion of our celebration of the Republic Day, he asked me to provide you with a work of art that I was assigned to decorate the Alexandria Municipal Council Hall ... I thought about it for a long time..and every artist should think before practicing his work..I came to a historical issue that dates back to the prosperity of the city of Alexandria, when it had a wonderful school of repute that contained scholars, thinkers and artists the pride of a civilization and the city of the Mediterranean .. and the credit goes to the Arabs for the city .. in conveying Greek Civilization to the Modern World. " The Alexandria School is one of the most important mural paintings of Muhammad Nagy and one of the most important works of modern Egyptian art at all, and it was either burned or stolen in the Alexandria Governorate fire during the January 25, 2011 revolution.
And the painting in which Nagy Assara puts an idea, spirit and talent in which he was influenced by the painting of the Athena School of Raphael ..... with his brilliant painting the Greek civilization is represented in Alexandria and Christianity is represented by Saint Catherine and the Arab civilization is represented by Ibn Rushd .. It mixes between the present and the past, so the statue of Alexander the Great In the center of the painting and in front of Archimedes is presenting a message to Ibn Rushd and in front of them is Saint Catherine and the lady seated carrying the Torah, which she translated into Greek .. and on the right of the painting Naji painted the symbols of the Greek civilization, and more recently like Sklards .. Lajodakis .. the poet Cavafy and his colleague Ungaretti .. Costa and Maritini .... and on the left The painting, Qaitbay Castle and the symbols of modern Egypt, Sheikh Muhammad Abda, the Afghani, Mustafa Abdel Razek, Ahmed Lotfi al-Sayed, Kata Hussein, Ahmad Shawqi, Hadi Shaarawi, Mahmoud Mukhtar, Doctor Supervisor, Mahmoud Saeed ... Mahmoud Al-Falaki ... Then Naji painted himself while painting the bright Alexandrian landscape that we lost forever.
