   - Induction Motor: Most ceiling fans use single-phase induction motors, which require a starting mechanism to initiate rotation.

 A capacitor is critical in this case as it creates a phase shift in the electrical current. 

This phase shift helps produce a rotating magnetic field, which allows the motor to start.

2. Speed Control:

   - Capacitors are also used to control the speed of the fan.

 Different fan speeds can be achieved by using different capacitor values.

 In multi-speed fans, the motor may utilize different capacitors or switch between capacitance values to change the electrical characteristics of the motor circuit, effectively altering the speed of rotation.
