The electrical system of a home

The electrical system of a home

The electrical system of a home,

focusing on the main electrical supply and its connection to the distribution board.

It begins with the electricity meter (showing the usage in kilowatt-hours), followed by the electricity company isolator that allows the supply to be turned off for maintenance or emergencies. The incoming live (L) and neutral (N) wires are connected to the distribution board, which houses a Residual Current Device (RCD) for safety.

The RCD is crucial for preventing electric shocks by detecting any leakage current.

The earthing system is also depicted, with the green and yellow earth wires (10 mm² and 16 mm²) connecting the distribution board to the main earth terminal and the metal water pipe.

This provides a safe path for fault currents to flow safely to the ground, preventing electrical hazards.

The diagram ensures the electrical system is properly grounded, offering protection against faults and promoting overall safety within the home’s electrical network.
