POWER PLANT : PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION

POWER PLANT

   PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION

As mentioned in Section 1 "Project overall description", the main concern is related to the high potential hazard of the low flash-point and somewhat unstabilized type of crude-oil and in consideration of the large stored and handled quantities as well as of the heat release of the thermal machines.

Consequently, the passive fire protection shall principally rely on:

a]      the layout of the fuel system installations and buildings (storage, unloading, pump houses),
b]      the design of the same,
c]       the safety requirement especially applicable to the electrical equipment to be installed in the hazardous areas,
d]         The specific protective steps related to the hot parts of thermal machines (gas turbines, diesel engines.

Another general hazard relies on the extent of the electrical installations and cabling or wiring.
"General design criteria for electrical equipment" which principally require:

 a]         efficient electrical protection,
b]         reliability upon the hot ambient condition,
c]         reliability and efficiency of insulation,
 d]         splitting of cables routing,
e]         splitting of cable galleries with fire barriers.
All above principles shall be grounded on the applicable codes and standards.
