1. Switchgear Description
1.1
Switchgear type
The offered switchgear is
air-insulated, metal-enclosed, metal-clad, type-tested, medium voltage
switchgear for indoor installation. The switchgear has been designed and type
tested in line with IEC 62271-200.
The switchgear along with the vacuum
circuit breaker 3AH5 & 3AH3 as switching device offers following benefits
to the buyers/users:
-
Saves Lives
-
Peace of Mind
-
Increases
Productivity
-
Saves Money
1.2
Panel design
The 8BT2 switchgear panel
consists of the following functional compartments:
-
Busbar compartment
-
Switching device
compartment
-
Connection compartment
-
Low-voltage compartment
1.3
Enclosure
The
panel enclosure including
doors and covers
as well as the partition
walls are made of
sheet-steel and are bolted together.
The complete enclosure including all doors, covers, and end walls is powder-coated with resistant epoxy resin, color Standard (RAL 7032). Partition walls and shutters are made of galvanized sheet
metal.
The complete
structure including
partition walls and shutters is metallic
and earthed. This ensures the highest service continuity category
LSC2B and highest operators’ safety with partition class PM in line with IEC 62271-200.
The service continuity category LSC2B allows
access to any functional unit while keeping any
other functional units energized and operated
normally. For example,
it is possible to access
the switching device compartment of a 8BT2 panel while
keeping the respective connection
and busbar compartments, as well as the adjacent panels, live. Thus the category
LSC2B provides the highest service continuity when any functional compartment (exception busbar compartment) is opened for maintenance. This feature
offers the benefit
“Increases Productivity”.
The earthed
metallic shutters and partition walls offer the partition class PM. This ensures
no electrical field in opened compartment due to living parts
in the adjacent compartment and no possible influence on electrical field distribution around
live parts in an adjacent compartment.
The exception is when the shutters are opened intentionally. Thus the partition class PM ensures
the highest operators’ safety during maintenance.
This safety feature offers
the benefit of “Saves Lives”.
In the case of an internal arc fault,
the pressure from the individual compartments is released upwards or backward. The front doors of switching device
compartments, the sidewalls of end
panels, and the busbar compartments are pressure
resistant. The 8BT2 switchgear panels have been typing tested under conditions of arcing due to an internal
fault in line with Annex A
of IEC 62271-200. The offered
switchgear confirms
classification IAC (initials for Internal Arc
Classification) and accessibility “A” for front and lateral
sides. The classification IAC ensures
operators’ safety even during the remote chance
of arcing due to internal fault. This feature offers the benefit
“Saves Lives”.
1.4 Busbar compartment
The busbar compartment houses
the 3 phase main horizontal busbars along with the bus support insulators,
feeder connections and bushings with fixed contacts.
The shutter for visual
inspection of the fixed contacts in bushings can be opened and closed
separately through the switching device compartment. The busbars are made of
round-edged profiles. The busbars are bolted from panel to panel.
The rear, as well as top covers, are bolted and provide access to busbars either from the rear or top during the
installation. Thus making the busbar compartment a “Tool-based accessible
compartment” as per IEC 62271-200.
1.5 Switching device compartment
The switching device compartment has a
possibility to house one of the following switching devices on withdrawable
truck:
-
Vacuum Circuit
Breaker 3AH5
-
Vacuum Circuit
Breaker 3AH3
Each 8BT2 panel with the above-mentioned switching
devices is provided with an integral withdrawable truck. Hence the buyer/user
does not require a handling truck for the replacement of the switching device.
When
moving from the service position to the test position and vice versa, the
withdrawable truck opens or closes the metallic earthed shutters covering the
fixed contacts in the busbar and the connection compartments.
The low voltage wiring between the switching device and the fixed part of the panel is connected by means of a 64-pin plug.
Wiring ducts for control cables are arranged inside the switching device compartment, and they are equipped with removable metallic covers. When viewed from the font, the internal panel wiring for earthing switch, instrument transformers is located in the left-hand wiring duct.
The
external control cables enter from below on the left side of the panel through
openings in the panel floor.
The use of proven vacuum switching devices minimizes the maintenance and shutdown
requirement of switchgear. This increases the availability of switchgear and decreases the maintenance costs compared to other switching dielectric mediums. Also, the use of vacuum as dielectric media prevents the formation of hazardous switching by-products. These features offer the benefits “Saves Lives, Peace of Mind, Increase Productivity and Saves Money”
1.6 Interlocks
The switching device a compartment in combination with vacuum circuit breaker offers the following
mechanical interlocks.
1. Precondition for moving the withdrawable truck from Test to Service position
-
Inserted and locked in the
panel
-
Circuit-breaker in OFF position
-
Feeder-Earthing switch in OFF
position
-
Consistent coding between switching device and switchgear panel through
- Switching device compartment front door closed and interlocked
2. Precondition for moving the withdrawable truck from Service to Test position
-
Circuit-breaker in OFF position
3. Operating the vacuum circuit breaker
-
Withdrawable truck in
interlocked end position (Service or Test position)
4. Operating the feeder earthing switch
- Withdrawable truck in the interlocked Test position
5. Opening the switching device compartment front door
-
Withdrawable truck in
interlocked Test position
Following operations are possible with the switching device
compartment front door closed:
-
Mechanical (emergency manual)
switching ON and OFF of Vacuum circuit breaker
-
Moving the withdrawable truck
from Test to Service position and vice versa.
-
Emergency manual charging of
VCB operating mechanism
-
Manual operation of the feeder
earthing switch
Thus the operators’
safety is completely ensured with the help of the above-mentioned interlocks and
with all operations behind a closed doors. This feature offers the benefit “Saves
Lives”.
In line with IEC
62271-200, the vacuum circuit breaker is type-tested inside the 8BT2 panel,
thus ensuring the performance reliability of the Vacuum circuit breaker inside the
panel.
This feature offers
the benefit “Peace of Mind”.
The door interlock of the switching device, compartment makes it “Interlocked based accessible compartment” as per IEC 62271-200.
1.7 Connection compartment
The
connection compartment can house the following components:
-
Block type current
transformers
-
Voltage
transformers
- Surge arresters
- Earth busbar,
- Earthing switch with making capacity
Cable termination can be accessed from the front by means of removal of the partition plate between the switching device
and cable compartment. Thus, the connection compartment is “Interlock and Tool based accessible” as per IEC 62271-200.
1.8 Low voltage compartment
The low voltage compartment is located at the front above the switching
device compartment. It is completely separated from the rest of the panel and
can be removed.
The electrical connections between the withdrawable unit and the fixed part
of the panel are made with flexible wires and a fixed-mounted 64-pin
low-voltage plug connection.
The secondary equipment is installed flush on the door of the low-voltage
compartment, or on a mounting plate / DIN-rails inside the compartment. The
wires are laid in wiring ducts with a sufficient cross-section.
